Motorola Phone Tools Installation (widcomm error)

June 14th, 2007

Many people are having issues installing the Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) software that comes on the CD included with Motorola phones. Installation runs as normal until you get a dialog that is looking for a file called “widcomm.cab” which should have been in the Addon folder on the cd. After a quick browse I found that the CD I received did not include this folder. I spent a couple of hours on the net and found a copy of that folder so that installation can be completed.

To fix the error, download the Addon folder below. All of the missing files are located inside that folder. When you get a dialog requesting those files, simply browse to the folder on your hard drive and point it to the file it wants. There are a handful of files that are missing, all of which should be in the Addon folder.

Make sure to use Live Update to get the latest drivers for your phone.

    Juan,

If you have WinFax Pro installed you could receive this error, it has also been reported by people using Outlook 2002. Hope this gives you a place to start finding a solution.

Thank you very much for a quick and easy way for someone like me that deleted the addons folder thinking it was useless
